Big thanks to all of you who volunteered to be mentors to the RAEng Leadership undergraduates.  We are still looking for a few more mentors, please get in touch if you can help.

What's Your Story?

SMF is currently putting together case studies which will form a high quality pack to be exported to the RAEng and other organisations to inspire young people to consider Engineering and Business as a career path.  These case studies will challenge the perception of what an engineer can and can't do.  We know you have an amazing story to tell, please get in touch and put yourself forward for this! We will follow up with an interview and write up your case.

Do you want to gain experience running a PR Campaign?

If so then here's an opportunity for you to liaise with national media by joining the SMF Communications Subcommittee.

New on the Website

We now have our first guest blogger, Chris Coopey, a Partner with Carpenter Box LLP, Chartered Accountants and Chartered Tax Advisers, comments on the 3,000 redundancies planned at BAE.  We hope to have regular guest bloggers as well as SMF bloggers, so if you feel passionately about a subject in our sphere that will interest others, please contact me.

Are You in Finance?

We hope to see more of you at our Finance networking events like the one we held in September with Catalyst Corporate Finance in London.  Mark Humphries gave a presentation on  "Private equity - in a world without debt is the model bust?

SMF Alpesh Amin commented: "Mark provided a great insight into what led to the phenomenal rise in the PE activities (during pre-credit crisis era) and the key reasons for the subsequent fall. His presentation was well researched and provided some key data points. The Q&A session allowed participants share their own experiences and overall the event was a great success!"
